Hindsight: Squirm Burpee @ The Oriental

New Kids on the Block nostalgia may be a little premature (like their ejaculation in their heyday?), but Vaudeville Nouveau is long overdue. The San Francisco-based Yard Dogs Road Show is at the forefront of the movement, but The Handsome Little Devils are holding down the fort right here in the Mile High Club. Originally founded by juggling brothers Handsome Mike and Dashing Dan, The Devils premiered their biggest production yet—The Squirm Burpee Circus—this week at The Oriental Theater. Although employing the term “circus” might be a slight exaggeration, Mike and sibling substitute Dave’s hand-eye coordination is highly impressive (Dave’s hand-eye coordination “off stage” is implied to be even more so). Squirm Burpee stunts include Human Cannon, Ladder of Love and Chainsaw Juggling. Eye exams are never a bad idea, but they ain’t lying to you now—Chainsaw Juggling is exactly what I just pecked. Devils’ arch nemesis Baron Vegan von Hamburger rounds out the sausage party portion of the cast, while Lovely Lolo adds a smoking dash of curvature to the troupe (rumor has it emergency wardrobe surgery was necessary to prevent potential “malfunctions”). Where would the Lindy Hop interludes be without Lolo’s acrobatics? Let's hope we never have to find out...

While I lack the prose of our dear OPM, I'd like to add an "I 2nd that!" to this review.
I attended both nights of the show...pre-'emergency costume'...*winkwink*...and was astounded both nights.
The show is best viewed from the floor level with the stage. The 2nd night I arrived late to a nearly-full house (word travels fast in D-town when it comes to unexpectedly great well-priced performance art) and got stuck upstairs...not nearly as good as watching it from the main level the previous nite.
I highly recommend this show. And I'm not related to, dating, nor endorsed by the cast or it's affiliates. In other words: the show was simply that good.
