wordplay by Samantha Donen
The five-piece LA-based The 88’s are the epitome of crush material with dreamy good looks and catchy three minute pop-art love songs. Throughout their 12 track sophomore album, Over and Over, they combine Vince Guaraldi-like piano styles with pedal rock, power-pop with jazz, and retro beats with burlesque. Read: Electric Light Orchestra meets The Beatles. The tremendous range and vocal talents of front man Keith Slettedahl draws you into upbeat love songs like “All ‘Cause Of You” and the acoustic lullabies of “You Belong To Me.” Slettedahl captures the raw emotion and excitement of being in love in a timeless track-listing of songs. Vivid orchestration and fresh, innovative lyrics garnered The 88’s enough attention to warrant an opening slot on tour with Matt Costa. They will be performing “Just for Me and for You” on August 2nd at the Gothic Theatre in Denver.
