Most of us have forgotten that Peter Murphy is still out there making music, but Denver’s aging goth crowd gathered loosely at the Ogden Theatre Wednesday night to worship remembers quite enthusiastically. 

Just the tagline alone, “Denim on Tap”, lends itself to the inviting ambiance that features a bona fide wooden bar where both men and women can kick back, relax and “order up” the perfect pair of blues. Perhaps it is the chalkboard menu of top denim selections that states: “‘Belly Up to the Bar and Order,’

This sign has always piqued my curiosity and one night I turned down that roughly paved road, pleased with my discovery. Underneath the sign exists paradise. Walk through the Japanese gate and you are transported from Colfax traffic to the Japanese countryside.

Piracy put Danger Mouse on the map.  Before the Gnarls Barkley producer illegally released his Beatles / Jay-Z mash-up The Grey Album, he was practically a nobody.  A gazillion downloads later, he was one of the most talked about and consequently controversial knob twiddlers in the business. 

Assisted by Denver2Night and yours truly, The Lure premiered its upstairs in March.  Office space was its primary previous function.  The offices have since been shifted back to accommodate a bar, a modest dance floor and a private VIP party room.  The place is akin to a lavish living room.

Sonic Bloom, one of the most digital music-dominated, noodle and wank-free festivals ever founded by a so-called “jam band,” was his brainchild.  In its third year, this summer’s staggering lineup features some of the finest knob twiddlers on the planet...

Brown Elvis has entered the building...and he’s not alone.  Elvis, infinitely better known as Kaz Q (Roofless, La Boheme), recently joined forces with brother from another mother Tom Evans (Axis Marketing, DC10) to found Denver-based US Produktions. 

SOS (aka Sex on Substance) brings together the suave styling of Desyn Masiello, his Sexonwax label partner Omid 16B, and co-conspirator Demi. Individually these three have already achieved more than most DJ/Producers could ever hope for; together they epitomize the current state of electronic dance music.
