When my friend Tanya first invited me to an Obama house meeting, I was reluctant, to say the least. The meeting was scheduled for a Sunday, and although I often work seven days a week, I had recently gotten into the “Sunday Funday” summer spirit, pool party hopping on the regular.

Pizza the Pie: Marco’s Coal-Fired

Is the effort worth the result? You bet your sweet rump it is! Two characteristics that make Neapolitan pizza so special are both in the crust. It should be crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside (not easy for such a thin crust) and Marco’s excels in both with its Hickory wood-cooked version. Dym isn’t about to overshadow his hard work, either.

Henry Pope, my former bassist, migrated westward a few years ago (with my Orange amp in tow) to get closer to the music business. Pope’s last band Boomerang Politik got name-dropped in URB Magazine’s “Next 100,” and now new band Lemonwilde is getting a little bit of play--airplay, that is--on one of the planet’s finest dial positions--103.1 FM in LA.

Please don’t hump my leg with that bad @$$ Mustang or Camaro your brother/uncle/friend used to own and if that rusty sh!+ box in your backyard that isn’t worth a tow bill to the junkyard still fuels your fantasy of retiring on Easy Street, then fµ©k off. I’m not a snob, I’ve just suffered fools long enough. Real collectors understand what a piston is, who designed their car, and what automotive heritage means to current or past products.

Book Wormin’: The Audacity of Hope
By Image Mag Staff @ 11:29 PM :: 110 Views ::

|
|
The Audacity of Hope contains Barack Obama’s plan for “a more perfect union.” No punches are pulled as Obama scrutinizes the faults of both liberals and conservatives alike. He is unflinching as he praises and criticizes aspects of the Reagan and Clinton presidencies. He is even, on occasion, courteous to the current administration, when the majority of his readers would revel in a bout of ‘Bush bashing.’

At what age did you first realize your comedic potential? Potty training involved? I haven't realized my potential yet. It was more private part training. Jimmy Kimmel: shaking the hand that’s been in Sarah Silverman’s @$$ It was great - I just got to watch Sarah Silverman get a haircut the other day. True story.

Fortunately, Pop-Tronica quintet Sangie, Georgea Peach, Ry!, Alex Khadiwala and Sammy T can cultivate a vibe like few others. If you haven’t witnessed firsthand what Beta’s done with their outdoor patio yet, you’re pathetically deprived.

Can I say one last thing? If I have anything to say to anybody, I just feel like people need to consider the fact that we’re living in an incredibly beautiful time where all things are within everybody’s reach. We are more connected than we’ve ever been. You don’t need to spend 10 hours a day on Instant Messenger. You can teach yourself some things and you can become a better person and maybe actually make this place, specifically America, a better place

Ride of the Month: 2008 Honda Accord

For as long as I can remember, Honda Accord has rolled with the stigma of being one of the longest lasting, most reliable cars on the road. Not only that, but it was the first car I’d ever come across as a kid that rocked front wheel drive and could do amazing things in the snow.

Charles Thompson has had a rough time living up to his legendary back catalogue. The Pixies, which he fronted under stage name number one Black Francis, have been nearly universally lauded by everyone from David Bowie to Kurt Cobain, but his solo career since (mostly under the compromising Frank Black guise) has been somewhat uneven.
