This review was originally handwritten with an especially fragrant and intoxicating magic marker, in honor of Trailer Park’s felt-tip sniffing psycho ex-boyfriend/one time mutt-resembling kid Duke (played in this case, by Patric Case).  I know, I know, sniffing is a gateway to huffing.  That, however, is a risk I was willing to take.  It was a small price to pay to pay homage to all those who made The Great American Trailer Park Musical possible, especially the producers who themselves risked their collective @$$ to extend the show’s Denver run.  Betsy Kelso would certainly be flattered as well, as she was the one who originally conceived the character for the book on which the show is based.  And then there’s Case, of course, whose current weekly duty is to bring Duke to demented life on The Denver Civic Theatre stage.  Not that he’s necessarily the most twisted character in Armadillo Acres, the particular park where Park takes place.  In fact, almost any other character in the show could potentially give him a run for his funny farm money.  There’s the agoraphobic housewife Jeannie (Alex Ryer), her cheating hubby Norbert (Craig Lundquist), the stripper next door Pippi (Melinda Smart), conjugal visit specialist Linoleum (Sharon Kay White), hysterically pregnant Pickles (Amy Board) and Armadillo’s landlady Betty (Robin Thompson).  As you may have already deduced, this is not your run of the mill stage production.  Trailer Park has more in common with Hedwig and the Angry Inch than Oklahoma.  Modern times deserve modern musicals, after all.  And everyone and their MILF deserves to laugh until they cry…which Trailer Park is guaranteed to facilitate.

Thru October 21st @ The Denver Civic Theatre
