Henry Rollins is one funny @$$ mother fucker. Not a media mogul by modern standards but certainly a Renaissance Man nonetheless, Rollins is a former punk rock icon who now has his own television show on the Independent Film Channel. Guests thus far have included Pixies’ singer Frank Black, Jurassic 5, filmmaker Oliver Stone, Ozzy Osbourne, Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons, Radiohead singer Thom Yorke and über-legendary actor Christopher Walken, among others.
In between filming segments, he still trots the globe doing what he calls “talking shows”, basically several hours of alternately hilarious and dramatic storytelling. I caught his most recent stop in the Mile High Club that is Denver, Colorado and it didn’t disappoint, as usual. Rollins blazed through tales of a hypothetical Belgian invasion, Comic Con, a crack head-eating alligator, Dubya’s Picasso-esque sentence construction, fondling Black Sabbath’s axes, Iranian Oprah fans, a single kiss six years in the making, an obscure UK rock band called The Ruts, USO tours in the Middle East, his first ever Van Halen concert, his video letter to Fox’s Bill O’Reilly and Walken’s appearance on his show, doing spot on impersonations of David Lee Roth, Iggy Pop, Nick Cave, Ted Nugent and Walken along the way. Over three full hours later, he finally shut his trap and allowed the blood to return to our butt cheeks…not that many weren’t dismayed about it.
