There’s no need to ignore the elephant in the bedroom.  Thanks to the controversy surrounding its sexually experimental Saturday night clientele, Sugar House hasn’t spent a penny on advertising until now.  They’ve got nothing to hide, though.  Yes, they cater primarily to couples on Saturdays.  Couples who occasionally play with other couples.  Consensually, of course.  What’s the big deal?  Committed monogamy may be perfectly acceptable for some, and a prison sentence for others.  Sexless marriage jokes are so common in standup comedian routines that they’ve become almost cliché.  A ring around the finger does not cause a nerve block to the genitals (The Ethical Slut).  More than half of marriages end in divorce, many of them over adultery.  So where’s the proof that monogamy is the only perfect system?  Chimpanzees, which share nearly 99% of our DNA, swap partners like it’s going out of style.  Obviously, humans are not exactly chimps, but does that automatically mean we’re superior?

Sugar House is not your everyday nightclub.  On Saturdays, especially, it isn’t necessarily the place for your average Dick.  On the other hand, so-called swingers come in just as many stripes as non-swingers.  Some are merely curious.  Some just like to watch.  Fair weather lesbianism is as far as others go.  And then there are those into full-on partner swapping, though it’s never mandatory.  Regardless, there is no swankier venue in the Mile High Club for any of them.  Located on the northeast corner of Alameda and Pecos, Sugar House is a two story, 8,000 square foot building complete with a modest dance floor, four king-size Tempur-Pedic VIP beds overlooking it, a billiard table and hotel room-like party suites upstairs for privacy.  Fresh ingredient “cock-tails” are “con-cock-ted” on both of their granite bar tops by recent regional Finlandia Vodka Cup Winner/Cocktail Chef Rich “Nacho Bizznez” Ewing and appetizers are whipped up until at least midnight, later in some cases.  Waterproofed leather sofas, designer ambient lighting, a state-of-the-art sound system, gorgeous bathrooms, keyed lockers (in addition to coat check), valet parking and a sexy staff are a few other features that flesh out the watering hole.

“Everyone that comes in here, they say the same thing.  ‘This is the coolest place I’ve been to.  I’ve never seen any nightclub like it,” says Sugar House “Sugar Daddy” Scottie Ewing.

Even though he realizes it’s somewhat inevitable due to the hot button nature of the topic, Ewing doesn’t want to be pigeonholed as a swingers club.  Saturday night is only one night of six he plans to debut in the coming months.  H.I.P. (Hospitality Industry Party) Mondays kicked off in November and has the potential to be one of the hottest service industry nights in the entire state.  Wednesdays are currently dedicated to a rock star simulation video game called Guitar Hero.  Intoxica Thursdays will be a Rat Pack/exotica/original lounge music era throwback that might occasionally benefit from a Sinatra impersonator.  Friday Night Flirt (FridayNightFlirt.com) is a singles mixer concept Ewing has been refining for awhile, and Holy Roller Sundays (starting in January) is the night when Vegas comes to Denver, funny money style.  The Ewing Brothers are also working on a “punny” cocktail menu to lubricate their patrons, controversial and non-controversial alike.  Called “Club Pour-nography”, it features concoctions like the “Money Shot”, which was taste tested and given the stamp of approval by Ewing’s own mother.

“Now we’re just trying to dispel what people perceive about what Sugar House is.  It’s not just about a swingers’ club or a sexy vibe.  Our marketing philosophy is catering to niche markets, and doing it right.”

Admit it, you’re curious...
