Beatport’s world-renowned South Beach pool party vibe has officially been duplicated on their “homebass” turf. AstroTurf, to be precise, although it’s nothing like the stuff old people put on their porches. After all, growing actual grass in the concrete jungle that is downtown Denver would require a green thumb of Sissy Henkshaw or even Jolly Giant proportions. Fortunately, Pop-Tronica quintet Sangie, Georgea Peach, Ry!, Alex Khadiwala and Sammy T can cultivate a vibe like few others. If you haven’t witnessed firsthand what Beta’s done with their outdoor patio yet, you’re pathetically deprived. In addition to being covered in grass-like AstroTurf and accentuated by two fifteen foot circular pools, there’s a DJ booth, lawn chairs, a pair of Bloody Mary-stocked bars, a fairly stripped down version of the audiophile’s wet dream-system inside and some actual foliage. The Pop-Tronica posse provides a plethora of other perks as well. Complimentary shades are presented in buckets by beautiful babes. Cheese and grapes are presented on trays by Brad Roulier. Cleavage and skin are on display in spades by patio patrons, and adventurous hair is teased into place by their Family Affair neighbors. Also, although the label doesn’t necessarily do the genre justice, Pop-Tronica purveyor Khadiwala possesses a seemingly bottomless bag of ear candy tricks (June’s special guests Posso rocked it proper too). Speaking of ear candy, maybe that’s the point of the Pop Rocks-inspired promotional propaganda…
