Dutch producer Tom Holkenborg (known to the masses as Junkie XL) is back with Today, his fourth artist album. His 2005 move from Amsterdam to the Venice Beach area has given him a new perspective on music, and he's decided to keep the sound simple. "For this album I went back to basics, as I just wanted to make ten great tracks... It's really [about the] vibe that I'm in... That's why it's called Today.

It's pretty much where I stand right now in my musical development."  Today plays like a night with a manic-depressive date, hitting a range of moods from happy to melancholy and everything in between.  The album is built around layered guitars, warm basslines, and dance floor beats. Newcomer Nathan Mader lends his vocal talent to several of the tracks, complimenting JXL's musical style and adding depth to the overall feel.  While I enjoyed the experience, I thought the album could have benefited from even more diversity.  That being  said,  this  release  will  certainly  show  fans  that "Xpanding Limits" is more than just a clever acronym.
