What would you crave the most about going out for a night on the town? A change of scenery? Musical variety? Glamorous people? No hip-hop? These are just a few of the tasty morsels that Denver’s newest nightlife haven Crave has to serve up.
Crave (in the former location of Club Level) provides a lounge atmosphere that can be described as sexy, cozy, and hot. Every night of the week promises different themes (such as 70s/80s, international, and back to back ladies nights) and a diverse music play list that ranges from Frank Sinatra to classic rock to swing. But the one type of music you will not hear there is hip-hop, as Crave prides itself on being the only spot in town that refuses to do so. Crave also strives to bring the wild club cultures of South Beach Miami and Europe to landlocked Denver. A sexy, clean staff of cocktail waitresses, go-go dancers and bartenders are on hand to cater to club goers’ whims-the staff’s professionalism and attitudes are equally attractive as well.
The levels inside Crave are designed for the ambition to climb straight to the top. The main floor has a classy art-deco feel of bright, solid colors and flashy glam décor, while the second floor is industrial in its furniture design, dance floor, and abstract wall art (reputed to be the most exciting level of Crave). The Crystal Room and A-List are on the top floor, where any one has the freedom to mingle with no pressure to spend more than then they can afford. But you can’t go beyond the velvet rope that separates you from the A-List, unless you pay the price to be treated like a pampered Hollywood celebrity. To be on Crave’s A-List means to have a red carpet, plush beds to relax on, and top-notch bottle, caviar, and fruit and cheese platter service. The cherry on top of the sundae is the A-List’s personal bar and dance floor- fabulous, darling. Owner Atilando (a.k.a Juan) Gonzalez is no stranger to the world of Denver night life, as his expertise has been instrumental in opening successful martini bars and lounges including Cosmos, A-Bar, Blue 67, Monarck and 5 Degrees. He opened Crave with the help of his partners Simon and Maro, to whom he owes gratitude as this venture could not be possible without their contributions. Gonzalez describes his transition from bartending for many years to becoming a club owner as being a whole different ball game, as bartending is a regular job while the owner has to oversee every single minute detail. He must also make sure that everyone’s enjoying themselves, by making a point to be up at the front of the club, not just behind the scenes, greeting everyone as equals because he feels everyone should be exposed to star treatment. Every concept of Crave’s variety-musically to thematically-promises to continually progress and scratch your night time itch.
