Most of us have forgotten that Peter Murphy is still out there making music, but Denver’s aging goth crowd gathered loosely at the Ogden Theatre Wednesday night to worship remembers quite enthusiastically. Some may claim the English born “Godfather of Goth” is a has-been, and indeed, the first two songs struck me as rough and uninspiring. But then the old Murphy was on stage again, thrilling his audience with his remarkable cult classics and teasing them with new lyrics. Beneath his deceptively gaunt exterior, the prominent cheekbones and awkward dance moves, hides a deeply absorbing and enthralling voice that one doesn’t easily forget. Unshattered was Murphy’s last project, and fans have been waiting since 2006 for the release of a new album, which is promised sometime this year.
