wordplay: DJ Elroy

Argy is by no means a new player in the dance music world; however, here in the States his name isn't heard much outside the DJ booth.

All that is about to change.

His full-length debut CD Focus On: Argy (Poker Flat Recordings) is here just in time for summer and will solidify his as one of house musics most unique names.

"I would never dare to approach an album without a concept," he says, and the idea behind Focus On is simple but effective: “I wanted to try something new, something very rare, which is to group together collaborations with various other artists in the form of an album, exploring as many different dance floor possibilities as are possible within his sound."

The mix itself is superb. The arrangement is interesting, starting out hard and heavy and loosening up a bit towards the middle. Just when you think you've got the groove figured, Argy snags you back in and dominates your earbuds once again. The playlist runs the gamut from deep and techy dubs to straight house to tribal to proggy electro and offers up a few unexpected surprises in between. Seamless transitions and a smooth polish tie everything together.

It must be noted, however, his music is not for everyone; a certain sophistication is needed to really appreciate the vibe he sets. It's psychedelic mood music and peak-time energy with a little foreplay thrown in to tease the ears.  It's not the sweaty juvenile banger you'll get from a lot of big name DJs these days, but something more. Something seductive and intimate.
