Justice just got OWNED.
These words came to me within 5 seconds of MSTRKRFT taking the stage, and lingered for the rest of the night. Flanked by a bank of television screens and tall, LED level meters that shot crisp, electrified bursts of Technicolor into the smoky darkness, (perfectly synched with the ever-more-devastating beats); the crowd was hypnotized from the start. A thousand sweat-drenched revelers exploded with vibed-up energy; hands stretched skyward as they worshiped at the temple of their electro-Canadian clergy.
The mixed DJ/"live" set was heavy on new material from the upcoming Fist of God album, including the now ubiquitous (and ubiquitously awesome) “Bounce” and “Vuvuvuvu”, which have been burning down Denver dance floors for months.
I would have loved more of the classics, ("The Looks" and "Street Justice" were both strangely absent) but at least we got our "Easy Love" on. Others' material, including several insane Daft Punk versions (the mix of “D.A.N.C.E” into “Da Funk” was a stroke of brilliance I'll be surprised to see repeated, um, ever), a Journey track, and a few other fun surprises rounded out the evening.
Felix Cartel's opening set also killed; chock full of crunchy, distorted beats.
Added bonus, just for Cash? The chance to make out, and I'm talking make out with a sexy lil vixen dressed in naughty Jazzercise gear. VA-VA-VA-voom, indeed.
All in all, a near perfect night.
